Melaleuca, commonly known as the broad-leaved paperbark, paper bark tea tree, punk tree, eucalyptus niaouli and cajeput, is a small to medium sized tree of the myrtle family. Melaleuca Quinquenervia has multiple uses, and is widely used traditionally by Australians. A brew was made from the bruised young aromatic leaves to treat colds, headaches and general sickness. The steam distilled leaf oil as an essential oil is used in a variety of cosmetic products and believed to have antiseptic and antibacterial properties.
